Social Conventions in Online Communities · May 6, 02:59 PM

Came across an interesting video clip of a study done in Second Life that shows that people still experience the “Elevator Effect” in virtual communities, much like real life. Things such as staring and standing too close, which would at first thought seem like no big deal in a virtual world (it’s just digital bits on a screen, right?), actually make people uncomfortable. People have the same reactions they do in real life, that is, they move away, break eye contact, or even get violent with the person invading their space.

Anyways, check out the video

Classes done · May 5, 04:58 PM

My classes are done for the semester. A lot of time spent, especially on the Coding III class, which was the Javascripting class I took. I learned a ton and feel confident in my Javascripting skills, which I did not before. I got some decent grades in both my classes, in case anyone was wondering. Feel free to browse some of my Javascript projects

For my Flash class, we had to create a game for the final project, and I created a “get out of the dungeon cell” game. It is fairly short (3 “action” scenes plus the final scene) but I have been told it is a quick bit of fun. If you want to play it, click the link above. Please let me know what you think of it if you play it!

New blog setup for Ann Arbor Broker Jack Brandmeier · May 5, 04:51 PM

I helped Jack get a blog about Ann Arbor real estate started and the first post went live last night. On it, he will be blogging about real estate and related topics in and around Ann Arbor.

The blog should help his SEO for his main website, and may help draw new visitors as well who will have an idea who Jack is. This will go hand in hand with the redesign being done to his website right now, which is coming along.

Google gone swimming? · Apr 17, 10:38 PM

My wife just pointed out something on Google maps I found funny. To see it for yourself, go to Google Maps and click on “Get Directions”.

Then, put Miami, FL in the from box, and Paris, France in the to box.

Click the Get Directions button.

Look at direction number 30 to see how Google suggests you get across the Atlantic.

Silly, but I thought it was funny.

First Ajax app online · Apr 17, 10:34 PM

Well, I managed to work my way through my first AJAX application, a Live Search that updates the search results as you type your search query. It also pulls a list of articles from an XML file and displays the titles.

Check my first Ajax app out, let me know what you think!

Try searching some web related terms, or try scoping your search dynamically once you have some results. There is no submit button or go button, just type and then wait for the results to appear.
